Christian Dior Fall 2013 RTW: Look 15. Image from Style.com |
If the Melbourne Cup is referred to as ‘the race that stops
the nation,’ then Paris Fashion Week should be the week of ‘holding our breath
until blue in the face’ from the monumental and majestic creations that flaunt
down the runways before us. With the usual highlights of Alexander McQueen,
Balmain and Chanel showing off their latest master pieces, one show failed to
flood my body with delight: the Dior show.
With the ready to
wear show being Raf Simons second for the design house, I found myself tilting
my head and raising an eyebrow over quite a few of his most recent creations.
Now I’m not at all claiming that the show was a disaster or that the clothes
were hideous: I believe that all fashion is a creative and complex creation
that should be given the recognition it deserves, it was just not at all what I
had envisioned the show to unfold.
With a clouded sky surrounding and strategically placed
mirrored spheres on the staged runway, Simons admits that he wanted this
collection to represent the art world, and be a ‘juxtaposition of something
surreal compared to something very real.’ He was interested in having a
collection that spoke about feelings and emotions that could be related to both
dreams and reality. The ready to wear selection to him was like a ‘personal
scrapbook.’
The full show can viewed here on Dior’s website, watch it
and let me know how you feel about it. To arty or to emotional? Or just
absolute perfection in your eyes? I’d love to hear your thoughts X
